Not a Second to Spare

If you want something done- ask a busy person- just don’t ask me. I am currently in the middle of my winter vacations, which is a euphemism for “I’ve got no work from January 1st till about roughly Feb 28th. This year instead of looking and feeling wild-eyed, desperate and poor for two months I opted for a change of perspective. I wouldn’t be cold, depressed, bored, scared about cash; I would appreciate the time off, be wise about the way I spend my dwindling cash supply and enjoy the pleasure of free time unencumbered by children and shopping at Target for non-essentials (and lets be honest is anything at Target essential? I could come out of there ANY day with 100 bucks of something I don’t need).
I know what all you mothers and fathers are thinking, “Whaaa. Poor baby has some free time and doesn’t know what to do.”
O.k. I agree. Whaa
Here’s the thing. The first three weeks I was moving along fine. I was working out every day; I was making egg sandwiches at home for the hubby and me with no one to say pee yewww; I was stockpiling blogs like we were in a recession (oh that’s right we are in a recession- blog for dinner any one?) I played scrabble an entire afternoon while eating a mound of popcorn with other “On-call” moms, as we like to call ourselves. And then came PMS and January took a sharp turn. Suddenly, I’m listless bored and too tired to workout or write. I’ve checked Facebook thirty-six times so far and it’s not even 10 a.m. My friends can barely play a move on the on-line scramble without me volleying a response game…within seconds.
And I can always check my mental health status by the Facebook checks I make: the more…the less merrier.
I grudge at having to do the smallest thing. Can I fit grocery shopping into my six-hour stretch? Asking a little much doncha think?
“I know I forgot your lunch money, kid, but seriously…eat paper because I DO NOT have time to get back here.
“Why, what are you doing?“
“Hello…checking Facebook now scat.“
With six hours to spare and nothing to do I suddenly am guarding my minutes as if they were my last and then slowly wasting them away.
And by the way, I have my first shift in four weeks coming up. Guess who doesn’t want to go to work?
Productivity begets productivity and as you know I am an all or nothing type of gal. So until February I will just be over here in club med or maybe it’s the slackers purgatory; it just depends on the time of month.
But in the meantime if you need anything done don’t ask me. I don’t have a minute to spare.

this would have been the perfect time to learn to knit with us. i think i may force it on you. you would be the fastest knitter ever….you’re already the fastest at everything else. and i feel you about the lazy begets lazy and vice versa…. i live it day to day. you can’t let yourself slide one day or you’re screwed for two more.
