Put Your Gloves on Kids: There’s a Popularity Contest In the Works

It seems that one member of my immediate family has been actually reading my blogs and to my surprise it’s not Donovan…it’s Beau. I began to wonder when he remarked on things I was sure I hadn’t discussed at the dinner table but pretty sure I had let half the world in on in my blog. I was really sure when he directly quoted something I had said regarding his behavior because I NEVER speak so eloquently when in a fit of anger and when he paraphrased me I was well…eloquent instead of frothing, seething, moronic sounding.
So Beau if you are reading, this one’s for you.
It may seem in the weekly world of blogging that I have I slight favor for the bright-eyed sprite that is known as Donovan. Not true. However there is something infinitely cuter about my little elf then his older, angrier, sometimes angst filled, often cocky and always right, older brother we call Beau. You just can’t compare sixteen and six in terms of likeability. And besides it’s hard to be angry when even YOU know how much love the little man has to give.
Now if we were to take young Beau then the gloves would be on. It would be quite a match because young Beau was as clever as stoic as kind and as giving as a young boy can be. I remember a mother coming up to me at his fifth grade graduation and saying we will always love Beau in our family because when everyone in the cafeteria and I mean everyone laughed at “Suzanne’s” smelly egg sandwich- only Beau deigned to sit next to her and share her lunch.
And in big Beau’s teenage defense, he is funny, clever, kind, well rounded, charismatic and loving. Well, when he wants to be that is. And that’s the difference; he is his own puppet master he pulls his own strings and sometimes some of ours….
But we still love him anyway and thank him for years and years of good memories and for the many more left to come. It’s just now he’s got to share them with a powerhouse we call Donovan. Good luck Beau we’re rooting for you and so is Donovan because he loves you that much…and so do we.

Beau? That is so sweet. He is interested in what his mom has to write about…or maybe he’s plotting to use your words against you…teenagers are sneaky, as you know!

I do think it would have been pretty shocking if Donovan was reading the blog since he is only in kindergarden and, as he admits, can’t read.
