I was forwarded a link to an article about reducing your family’s footprint, meaning footprint on the environment, and am passing it along because there’s some good information here. I spent a few minutes clicking around this blog and related blogs and plan to go back and read more later when I have a bit more time. (Not sure when that is exactly, but it’s the plan.)
While I make no claims about running a green household or always making green decisions (I drive to work, I don’t carry my own Starbucks mug, etc.), I do take opportunities to conserve when I can. And with a baby, the amount of trash is just more than I could have imagined. My husband and I have commented a few times on the amount of paper towels we use. Prior to having a child we used about one roll of paper towels a month, perhaps less. We’re just not that messy. These days, though, we’re buying a new roll every week. I keep a stack of dish towels in the kitchen, but we’re still rolling through paper towels.
And then there are the diapers…

A few friends of mine have been using cloth diapers. I was so surprised to learn the it’s not a cotton cloth folded in a triangle and held together with a safety pin. They are actually quite cute and great for the environment.

you can’t give up everything- for instance
Can’t: give up paper towel
Can:give up those clorox wipes and use a washcloth.
Can’t: take the bus
Can: walk to work sometimes
Can’t: go vegan
Can: eat less red meat
Can’t: plant my own garden (yet)
Can: Buy local produce
Can’t: stop shopping at places like target and walmart for kid’s toys that are overwrapped and overpriced and shipped from god knows where
Can: Not buy much at all
we do the best we can—-and hope it’s good enough!
