What’s the timeline on push presents?

Is it too late for me to receive a push present? My girl is almost 7 months old - maybe I could get a seven carat diamond?
Sound crazy? Don’t tell J. Lo and Marc Anthony. Apparently her push presents are quite the showstoppers. I’ve heard about these for a few days now and found this blog post stating that the new momma received a diamond ring and earrings engraved with the twin’s initials.
Ain’t money nice?
But seriously, I didn’t learn about push presents until Sophia was born and am still undecided as to whether I think they’re OK or not. I’m not the type of girl who turns down jewelry, or any gift for that matter, but something about push presents doesn’t agree with me. One issue is the pushing. If you have a C-section, are you still eligible for the gift? There’s technically no pushing, but the result is the same nonetheless.
More importantly, it just seems that the gift has already been given. A healthy child is an amazing gift and diamonds just don’t compare. They’re nice, but not even in the same ballpark.
Of course, if my husband decides to get on trend at this late date I will not push the package away, but I will never appreciate any gift the way I do my daughter.

For the last weeks of my pregnancy, i visited a purse at the Fossil store. It was far too expensive for our budget, but I loved it so much, I would just stop by and see it again every time I was at the mall…just window shopping. My husband knew of these sporadic visits to “my purse” because I showed him one day the one I liked. He is a window shopper too. Then, the weekend after my son was born, my husband came in, with “my purse” in hand. I was not nearly as excited about the purse, as I was about the birth of my son, but it sure was nice to have that gift, that I wanted so very badly. Call it a push present, if you want…I call it a reward for nine months of sobriety!!

Good for you, Maureen. So, what was the present?

I TOTALLY agree with “push” presents (and yes, this does include ALL deliveries). I completely agree with the concept and felt it was important to drill it in my husband’s head when I was pregnant with my first child. Yes, our children are the greatest gift however, I like to see husbands show some gratitude for all that we go through in pregnancy, delivery, etc. That is no small job and a little gratitude is always nice.
